Using coracles
Using a
coracle is fairly straight forward, but we strongly advise you NOT to go paddling either alone or with a friend. There are many
coracle events annually, where there is usually an opportunity to paddle. The Coracle Society has guidelines for safe use of coracles. These are available on the Links page.
To sail a
coracle, you sit in the middle of the seat, legs apart and with the paddle in front of you in the water. You then either make a ‘J’ stroke with the paddle or you use a sculling stroke (figure of 8 on its side.) To turn the boat round, paddle at either side. Simple!
